May 22 is a memorable day for Bitcoiners around the world. It is known as Bitcoin Pizza day!

Why? Because on May 22, 2010 Lazlo Hanyecz spent 10,000 bitcoin, back then worth $30, on two Papa John’s pizzas. Today May 22, 2025, 10,000 bitcoin is worth over $1,100,000,000!

While most folk would cringe at this news, and understandably so, this needs to be considered as a very important turning point in history. It was the first time bitcoin was used to pay for something. It had value.

Fast forward 15 years from that day and bitcoin is now being used and accepted all around the world as payment method. And it’s acceptance is growing by the day.

Bitcoin’s birthday is January 3, 2009.

Bitcoin took it’s first steps on May 22, 2010.
